Kim Yong Nam, former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), died of illness at age 97 on Monday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
At 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Kim Jong Un—General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of State Affairs of the DPRK—visited the bier to pay tribute and offer deep condolences.
A state funeral has been approved by the Central Committee of the WPK, the State Affairs Commission, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly and the DPRK cabinet. A 100-member national funeral committee, led by Kim Jong Un, will oversee all arrangements.
The public can visit the bier from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with funeral services set to start at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
