In Nanning in the Chinese mainland, the 2025 ASEAN Media Partners Cooperation Week kicked off Monday under the banner "Openness, Culture, and a Shared Home." Co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the event drew around 200 participants—government officials, ambassadors in Beijing, media professionals and experts from both the Chinese mainland and ASEAN members.
Fan Yun, deputy editor-in-chief of CMG and editor-in-chief of CGTN, opened the ceremony by underscoring the momentum from the recent Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. "We will continue to expand high-level opening-up and advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation," Fan said, setting an ambitious tone for the week ahead.
For CMG, "openness" is a sail powering new experiments in artificial intelligence, big data and cloud-based communication to make media collaboration more inclusive and impactful. "Culture" acts as the pulse of people-centered storytelling, injecting warmth and authenticity into cross-border narratives. And "shared home" drives CMG’s goal to leverage its 85 language services and 192 overseas stations, weaving a richer tapestry of China-ASEAN success stories.
In a video address, Khamphanh Pheuyavong, member of the Secretariat of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and head of the Propaganda and Training Commission, highlighted how media serves as a bridge, deepening cultural understanding in a fast-changing digital era. "China and ASEAN share close ties in geography and culture," he noted, calling on media partners to shape a stable, resilient "community of shared destiny."
Laos, said Khamphanh, stands ready to deepen ties with China and other ASEAN members. He hopes this Cooperation Week will spark fresh ideas and new paths for regional media synergy.
