Two Arrested After Stabbing on Cambridgeshire Train Sparks Emergency Response

An unexpected knife attack on a train in Cambridgeshire late Saturday saw multiple passengers injured and two suspects taken into custody. The British Transport Police confirmed they were "responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon" after reports of stabbings around 7:40 p.m.

Cambridgeshire police say a "number of people" were rushed to nearby hospitals as dozens of emergency vehicles, including ambulances and air ambulances, descended on Huntingdon station. An AFP photographer described passengers wrapped in space blankets being led away from the scene.

One witness told The Times they saw a man wielding a large knife, with "blood everywhere" as terrified commuters hid in washrooms. Others were trampled in the rush to escape, and amid the chaos, some called out "we love you" to reassure each other.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack "appalling" and thanked first responders for their swift action. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood confirmed two arrests and urged anyone in the area to follow police advice.

As investigators piece together what led to this violent outburst, the incident raises fresh questions about security on public transport and the measures needed to protect commuters across the globe.
