In a strategic phone call on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Algeria’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf reaffirmed their commitment to deepening a comprehensive strategic partnership rooted in decades of profound traditional friendship.
Wang Yi highlighted that China and Algeria have built an all-dimensional cooperation framework, achieving steady, sound development under the guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He emphasized that China stands ready to follow through on the consensus reached by the two heads of state and support each other’s core interests, aiming to deliver fresh milestones in bilateral relations.
Looking ahead, the second China-Arab States Summit scheduled to be hosted in China next year will mark another milestone in China-Arab relations. Wang described Algeria as a major country with significant influence in the Arab world and expressed China’s readiness to collaborate closely with Algeria to ensure the summit’s success.
For his part, Ahmed Attaf praised China as an important trading and investment partner and commended China’s objective, impartial position as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He pledged that Algeria will work with China to continuously enhance their traditional friendship, deepen practical cooperation, and elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.
On the Western Sahara issue, Wang underscored that China’s position remains consistent: a political solution through United Nations channels and Security Council resolutions is the fundamental way forward. He stressed that dialogue and negotiation are the right approach and expressed hope that all parties can communicate fully and reach a fair, acceptable solution.
