China celebrates multiple medals at 2025 World Taekwondo Championships

WUXI, Chinese mainland 6mu00ndash 6China's taekwondo squad clinched multiple medals at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, highlighted by Xiang Qizhang's silver in the men's 80kg division. The event saw home athletes rise to the challenge, delivering a string of podium finishes against the world's best.

In the final bout, 21-year-old Xiang faced Brazil's Henrique Marques. Marques took the first round 2 61, and neither fighter landed a clear blow in the second round. Marques's superior overall points sealed the gold, while Xiang earned silver 6China's first in this weight category. Individual Neutral Athlete Artem Mytarev and South Korea's Seo Geon-woo shared the bronze.

After the match, Xiang admitted he hadn't felt relaxed and regretted not deploying the speed advantage he's honed in training. He said this hesitation allowed his opponent to control the pace and clinch victory.

Beyond Xiang's podium finish, the Chinese team demonstrated depth and promise across other divisions. Coaches and fans alike hailed the results as a sign of the sport's growing popularity in the Chinese mainland.
