Beijing Dialogue Sparks Asia-Pacific Prosperity Ahead of APEC Summit

A vibrant dialogue on global governance and shared Asia-Pacific prosperity took place in Beijing ahead of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. The event brought together leading figures from the Chinese mainland and across the region to tackle challenges and chart a course for sustainable development.

China Media Group President Shen Haixiong opened the discussion by highlighting the need for "Eastern wisdom" in a world where global governance is at a crossroads. "By building a community with a shared future for humanity, we can turn challenges into opportunities," he said, adding that Asia-Pacific economies have become "a driving force" for economic globalization and multipolarity.

Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, stressed that deeply intertwined interests demand robust global governance. "Solidarity, cooperation and win-win outcomes remain the only path forward," he noted.

Malaysian Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz emphasized the role of rules, trust and inclusiveness as foundations for shared and sustainable growth. "Under a just and equitable order, all economies, large or small, can treat one another as equals," he said.

Chilean lawmaker Ruben Oyarzo underscored Chile's commitment to advancing Asia-Pacific development and lauded efforts by APEC members to build "bridges of understanding and trust." Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-sup added that mutual trust and collaboration are vital in addressing climate change, tech innovation, population aging and economic uncertainty.

A global poll revealed during the event that 83.3% of respondents view APEC as a key platform for economic cooperation, while 83.4% highly recognize the Chinese mainland's contributions to APEC's sustainable development agenda. These findings underscore growing public support for regional collaboration and shared prosperity.

As leaders gear up for the APEC summit in Gyeongju, the Beijing dialogue set a dynamic tone for innovation, cultural exchange and inclusive policies that aim to shape the future of the Asia-Pacific region.
