The Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital, a 400-bed facility in Phnom Penh funded by the Chinese government and constructed by China State Construction Engineering Corporation, is transforming healthcare access with cutting-edge medical technology and a dedicated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) department. The hospital opened during the ‘China-Cambodia Friendship Year,’ coinciding with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Dr. Koeurng Raksmiy, a senior physician at the hospital, told CGTN that the facility’s nationwide services have already provided critical care to thousands. ‘Many residents travel from rural areas specifically for TCM treatments like acupuncture,’ he noted, adding that Cambodians increasingly view Chinese medicine as a ‘valuable complement’ to modern healthcare.

The project underscores deepening bilateral cooperation, combining Cambodia’s healthcare needs with China’s expertise in infrastructure and wellness innovation. Its hybrid model – merging advanced diagnostics with holistic TCM practices – has become a talking point for global health professionals exploring cross-cultural medical collaboration.
