Zimbabwe Minister Highlights Women as Africa’s Change-Makers

At the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Monica Mutsvangwa, spotlighted the pivotal role of women as the backbone of change in Africa.

"Women in Africa are not just beneficiaries but the foundation of transformation," Mutsvangwa said in an interview with CGTN’s Cui Yingjie, highlighting women’s resilience and readiness to embrace digital tools. Data show that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – many led by women – now drive around 60 percent of Zimbabwe’s GDP, underscoring their growing economic influence.

Marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the minister described the conference as a chance to "review, recommit and move forward together." She thanked President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for training initiatives that have empowered women entrepreneurs, and called for deeper cooperation between Zimbabwe and China around women’s empowerment, green development and inclusive growth.

As the world charts a path toward a more equal and sustainable future, Mutsvangwa’s message resonates across continents: investing in women is investing in progress.
