China Coast Guard (CCG) has released video footage showing a Philippine government vessel ramming CCG ship 21559 near Tiexian Jiao in the Nansha Islands.
According to CCG spokesperson Liu Dejun, two Philippine government vessels1002 and 30031 illegally intruded into waters adjacent to Tiexian Jiao. At around 9:19 a.m., Liu says vessel 3003 ignored multiple warnings and made a dangerous approach, colliding with ship 21559.
"The responsibility lies entirely with the Philippines," Liu said, adding that the CCGs response was "professional, standardized, and lawful." The released footage aims to support this position by clearly showing the moment of impact.
This incident spotlights ongoing maritime tensions in the region, as neighboring states regularly contest overlapping claims around the Nansha Islands. For young global citizens, business leaders and policy watchers, the episode underscores the challenges of enforcing maritime rules in crowded waterways.
As authorities review the event on both sides, questions remain about de-escalation and future patrol protocols. For now, the video has become a key piece of evidence in understanding what happened at sea.
