Beijing is set to welcome global advocates from October 13 to 14 for the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, a two-day summit focused on accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment. Hosted in the capital, this gathering will bring together policymakers, activists and changemakers to map out the next chapter of global action for women and girls.
In an exclusive conversation with CGTN anchor Wang Mangmang, Huang Xiaowei—vice president and first member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation, and vice chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women of the State Council—reflected on the lasting influence of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. She highlighted its role as a blueprint for systemic reform and societal change over the past decades.
Huang underscored that China has made remarkable progress in promoting gender equality and women’s all-round development. Thanks to strong support from the Communist Party of China, women now have greater access to leadership opportunities, enhanced social representation and a stronger sense of personal fulfillment. From grassroots initiatives to national policy, these strides are reshaping the fabric of communities across the Chinese mainland.
Beyond domestic gains, Huang pointed to China’s growing role in global governance on women’s issues. She noted active participation in international forums, collaborative research on gender-based challenges and contributions to global policy dialogues. “Our commitment extends beyond borders,” she said, “as we work with partners worldwide to share best practices and drive collective impact.”
As the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women approaches, Huang Xiaowei called on young global citizens, entrepreneurs, academics and digital nomads alike to engage in cross-cultural exchanges and help chart a more inclusive future. With fresh ideas and real-world solutions, this summit aims to spark new momentum for the next wave of gender equality breakthroughs.
