CGTN Poll: 90% Back One-China Principle, Reject Taiwan Independence Provocations

A new CGTN survey of 13,650 respondents across five languages reveals overwhelming global support for the one-China principle, with nearly 90% criticizing recent Taiwan authorities’ “Taiwan independence” activities as destabilizing.

According to the poll, 89.8% of participants view the one-China principle as a global consensus, and 90.2% agree all countries should adhere to UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, which affirmed the political and legal basis for China’s representation at the UN, including that of the Taiwan region.

When asked about cross-strait peace and stability, 87.7% said upholding the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus is key to ensuring harmony in the Taiwan region and unlocking economic benefits through integrated development.

The survey also highlighted concerns over the Taiwan authorities’ military buildup. Some 89.1% believe plans to expand air defense and boost defense spending by 2030 risk escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait, while 82.7% warn about the financial and security burdens that could push the region toward conflict.

On the broader impact, 92.6% stressed that stability in the Taiwan Strait matters for Asia-Pacific and global security. Additionally, 92.7% noted that most residents of the Taiwan region aspire to peace, development and exchanges, rather than separation.

When it comes to foreign involvement, 91.1% say the Taiwan question should be resolved by the Chinese people themselves, free from outside interference. Meanwhile, 81.5% urge the U.S. to clearly oppose any form of “Taiwan independence” through concrete actions.

This rapid-response poll, published in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian, underscores a shared global desire for stability and mutual development across the Taiwan Strait. In a digital age where every click counts, this snapshot reminds us that millions around the world value unity and cooperation over division.
