At a press conference in Bern on Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed all initiatives aimed at restoring peace and saving lives in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for a genuine, comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. Speaking alongside Swiss Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, Wang urged the international community to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and rebuild stability in the region.
Highlighting the recent first-phase ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas, Wang Yi underscored that any future arrangement must fully respect the will of the Palestinian people. "Efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East must uphold the international consensus of the Palestinians governing Palestine," he stated.
Wang also reiterated the importance of the two-state solution, saying only an independent State of Palestine can address historical injustices and root causes of violence. "Realizing the national rights of the Palestinian people is key to lasting coexistence," he noted.
Looking ahead, China stands ready to work with partners like Switzerland and the broader global community to drive forward sustainable peace and stability in the Middle East. As Wang Yi put it, diplomatic collaboration and respect for people's aspirations are essential for saving lives and securing a more peaceful future.
