UN’s Fu Cong Urges Solidarity to Safeguard Women’s Safety

During Monday’s UN Security Council session, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called for enhanced solidarity and international cooperation to advance women’s development and protect their safety in conflict zones.

Fu Cong stressed that the council should strengthen unity and work across regions to push for lasting ceasefires, adding that promoting women’s safety is an urgent imperative for the global community.

His remarks come at a time when women worldwide continue to face disproportionate risks in areas affected by war and unrest. Advocates note that without secure environments, efforts to promote education, health, and economic empowerment for women are severely hindered.

Experts and activists welcomed the call, observing that cross-border partnerships, inclusive peace negotiations, and targeted aid can reshape the trajectory for millions of women. A leading humanitarian spokesperson noted that when the world moves together, schools can reopen, clinics can stay open, and families can rebuild.

Looking ahead, Fu Cong urged the Security Council to translate words into action by supporting ceasefires, bolstering funding for women-specific programs, and embedding gender perspectives in all peacekeeping efforts. He emphasized that collective solidarity lays the foundation for safer, more equitable societies.

As the international community prepares for upcoming diplomatic forums, the focus on women’s safety and development is expected to gain traction, with stakeholders across business, tech, and civil society ready to contribute solutions that amplify women’s voices and secure their futures.
