China Blasts US Committee for Blocking Education Exchange

Beijing – China’s Foreign Ministry delivered a strong rebuke to the U.S. House Select Committee on China, calling its latest report “nothing credible” and accusing it of smearing Beijing with political motives.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun issued the remarks after the committee released an investigation proposing restrictions on normal exchange and cooperation in education between the two countries. “Over its irresponsible investigation, the Chinese side has protested to the U.S. side,” he said.

Guo emphasized that exchange and cooperation in education “is mutually beneficial.” He added that such programs are in both countries’ interests and foster interaction and understanding between their peoples.

He also criticized certain U.S. politicians for overstretching national security concerns to interfere in people-to-people and cultural exchanges, warning that these attempts “find no support and will lead nowhere.”

Urging the U.S. to honor President Donald Trump’s commitment to welcoming Chinese students, Guo called on Washington to stop harming relevant parties’ interests and China–U.S. ties. He concluded by stating that China will “keep a close eye on what the U.S. says and does and will do what is necessary to firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests.”
