Phase One Gaza Ceasefire Reached: Focus Shifts to Implementation

After more than two years of intense hostilities, Israel and Hamas have announced the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire, offering a temporary pause in the conflict. Analysts say the real test begins now, as parties shift from agreement to action.

“It is a very important moment for peace,” said Wang Jin, director of the Center for International Strategic Studies at Northwest University in the Chinese mainland. He cautioned that uncertainty remains, with hurdles like forming a new government in Gaza, rebuilding a war-torn economy, and defining the future role of Hamas.

Calling the deal “a great day for Israel,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to convene his cabinet on Thursday to formally approve the agreement. Some far-right and ultra-right ministers argue he granted too many concessions, but experts believe the phase-one deal will move forward.

Political observers note that while Netanyahu pushes for swift cabinet endorsement, dissenting voices among right-wing lawmakers may be eased by parallel negotiations on West Bank settlements. With implementation on the horizon, global eyes now watch how both sides will uphold the fragile truce.
