Next Monday, Cairo will host high-stakes talks between Israeli and Hamas delegations to hammer out the field conditions and details of a broad prisoner exchange and ceasefire in Gaza. The move follows a U.S.-backed proposal aimed at pausing hostilities and securing the release of all Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said these negotiations, coordinated with international partners, aim to end the war and suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people, after two consecutive years of conflict. A pause in Israeli bombardment is already in effect to give the deal framed as a 20-point peace plan a chance to succeed.
From Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to urge quick action. He warned that Hamas must move quickly or risk losing the opportunity. Trump added that Israel has agreed to an initial withdrawal line, with the ceasefire set to take effect immediately once Hamas confirms, paving the way for the hostage and prisoner swap and the next phase of troop pullback.
Meanwhile, envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arrived in Egypt over the weekend to fine-tune the proposal. With two years of conflict on the line, global eyes are on Cairo to see if diplomacy can finally turn the tide and bring captives home.
