Hamas Delays Decision on Trump’s Gaza Plan Amid Key Concerns

Under mounting pressure, Hamas says it needs more time to review U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the nearly two-year conflict in Gaza.

On Tuesday, Trump set a “three or four days” ultimatum for Hamas to accept a ceasefire, the rapid release of hostages, disarmament and a phased Israeli withdrawal. Failure to act could derail a proposal endorsed by major international players.

A senior Hamas official, speaking anonymously to AFP, confirmed that consultations are ongoing and that the movement has asked mediators for additional time.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has already voiced concerns in parliament, stating that Trump’s public outline differs from a draft crafted by Muslim-majority countries. “These 20 points… are not the same as ours,” he said.

Within Hamas, opinions diverge. One faction favors unconditional approval under Trump’s guarantees for an immediate ceasefire. Another demands amendments on disarmament clauses and seeks international assurances for a full Israeli exit and protection of Palestinian cadres.

Mohammad Nazzal, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, hinted at these reservations in a statement, promising to clarify the group’s position soon. Other sources underscore a call for no expulsions and no assassinations inside or outside Gaza.

With global mediators racing against the clock, Hamas faces a critical decision. Their answer could reshape the future of Gaza and test the influence of external powers in brokering a fragile peace.
