Sumud Flotilla Halted 70nm Off Gaza with Greta Thunberg Aboard

Under a gray morning sky, the Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla set sail toward Gaza, loaded with vital food and medicine.

Onboard, a coalition of hundreds of international parliamentarians, lawyers and activists came together to spotlight Gazas urgent humanitarian needs. Among them was Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, lending her global profile to the mission.

About 70 nautical miles off the Gaza coast, the convoy was halted by Israeli forces. Naval vessels approached the aid ships and ordered them to stand down, leaving the flotilla anchored in international waters as negotiations began aboard.

Supporters say the mission underscores rising global solidarity for Gaza and calls attention to challenges in delivering aid through contested waters. Despite the setback, organizers vow to press on, coordinating with international observers and legal teams to secure safe passage.

As the day unfolds, the world watches closely, awaiting updates from the sea lanes on whether Sumud will break through to deliver its life-saving cargo.
