The Chinese mainland’s AS700 airship soars above 1,000m

In a landmark test at over 1,000 meters on a Guizhou plateau, the Chinese mainland's independently developed AS700 manned airship completed its first low-altitude flight. Built by the Special Vehicle Research Institute under the Aviation Industry Corporation of the Chinese mainland (AVIC), the airship showcased stability and safety in highland conditions.

During the flight, AVIC teams collected environmental data and flight performance metrics that confirmed the AS700's adaptability to plateau regions. These insights will guide the next rounds of design improvements and custom flight support solutions.

With a maximum range of 700 kilometers and up to 10 hours of endurance, the AS700 is poised for diverse missions, from emergency rescue and aerial surveillance to tailored logistics. Its thrust-vector synchronous servo control system enables vertical takeoffs and landings within a 150-meter diameter zone.

Looking ahead, AVIC aims to refine the AS700 for low-altitude tourism in the southwestern region and expand its role in transport and exploration. The airship is set to become a new engine for the Chinese mainland’s low-altitude economy, opening up fresh opportunities for tech enthusiasts, adventurers, and regional developers.
