In a move underscoring Macao SAR's legislative rhythm, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has appointed seven new members to the region's eighth Legislative Assembly, filling all 33 seats ahead of the body's upcoming session.
According to the SAR Official Gazette and the Basic Law, the appointments include Cheong Weng Chon, Lei Wun Kong, Kou Kam Fai, Chao Ka Chon, Lam Fat Iam, Wong Ka Lon and Kou Ngon Seng.
Following the September 14 election, which produced 14 directly elected and 12 indirectly elected lawmakers, these appointees finalize the assembly's full roster after the audit of preliminary results.
This blend yields a legislature with roughly 42% directly elected, 36% indirectly elected and 21% appointed members, reflecting Macao SAR's hybrid electoral model.
With its membership set, the eighth Legislative Assembly is poised to begin debates, review policy proposals and shape Macao SAR's legislative landscape in the months ahead.
