Cambodia-China Film Collaboration Takes Center Stage at Silk Road Film Festival

FUZHOU, Fujian Province, the Chinese mainland – Filmmakers, producers and cultural officials gathered for the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival in Fuzhou, where cinema once again proved its power to bridge borders. This year’s festival highlighted a landmark development: the launch of the Belt and Road Film Industry Cooperation Platform at the Belt and Road Country-Specific Promotion Forum.

The new platform is designed to streamline co-productions, distribution partnerships and talent exchanges between Belt and Road countries and regions. For Cambodia, collaboration has already taken shape with the opening of the Cambodian Asian Film Festival office in Fuzhou, an initiative aimed at showcasing Khmer cinema to audiences in the Chinese mainland and beyond.

Pok Borak, director of the Cinema and Cultural Diffusion Department at Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, noted that strengthening film ties with China offers fresh opportunities for storytelling and market expansion. He pointed to the office in Fuzhou as a key hub for cultural outreach, industry networking and joint projects.

Across screenings, panels and networking sessions, the festival buzzed with energy as young creatives, industry veterans and digital pioneers explored new formats from VR showcases to cross-border distribution deals. The event underscored how film can drive sustainable tourism, cultural dialogue and tech-enabled storytelling for a global generation of explorers.

Looking ahead, organizers anticipate that the Belt and Road Film Industry Cooperation Platform will catalyze further co-productions, ferry new voices into international festivals and deepen the artistic partnership between Cambodia and the Chinese mainland.
