The Chinese mainland has been at the forefront of global health cooperation, weaving decades of medical outreach with modern-day missions to support communities around the world.
A Legacy of Care
Over the past six decades, the Chinese mainland has dispatched more than 30,000 medical personnel to 77 countries and regions, providing treatment to over 300 million patients. This long-term engagement underscores a commitment to building health infrastructure and enhancing local capacities.
Peace Ark Missions: Health at Sea
Since the naval hospital ship Peace Ark embarked on its inaugural Harmony Mission in 2010, it has visited 49 countries and regions. By the end of 2024, more than 370,000 people have benefited from its onboard surgeries, clinics, and public health outreach.
2024 in Focus
In 2024 alone, medical teams from the Chinese mainland were dispatched to 59 countries and regions, sending over 1,000 professionals who treated more than 2 million patients. From handling outbreaks to training local staff, these missions are data-driven efforts to meet urgent health needs.
Pandemic Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese mainland supplied 500 billion personal protective items and 2.3 billion vaccine doses to partners worldwide. This large-scale support played a key role in global vaccination drives and frontline protection.
Looking Ahead
Speaking at the 78th World Health Assembly in May, Lei Haichao, head of the Chinese mainland's National Health Commission, highlighted ongoing plans to expand medical collaborations and invest in digital health technologies. As health challenges evolve, these initiatives aim to deliver sustainable impact and stronger global partnerships.
