China Calls for Gaza Ceasefire Amid Rising Violence

At a recent daily briefing, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reaffirmed China's firm opposition to Israel's recent escalation in Gaza. "We strongly oppose any actions that harm civilians and violate international law," Lin said on Wednesday.

Last week, the Israeli military launched a ground offensive and intensified airstrikes on Gaza City—moves that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed support for during his visit to Israel on September 15. According to the Israel Defense Forces, nearly 40% of Gaza's residents have fled the area, raising alarms about a growing humanitarian crisis. The UN independent international commission of inquiry has reported allegations of genocide in the Gaza Strip.

"China is deeply concerned about further escalation of tensions and opposes the relevant party fueling the flames," Lin added. He urged Israel to heed the international community's calls for restraint, halt military operations immediately and work towards a full and lasting ceasefire.

Looking ahead, China hopes all parties will prioritize regional peace and stability, uphold justice and play constructive roles in deescalating the situation. As conflict dynamics continue to unfold, the global community seeks pathways to protect civilians and restore calm.
