Horgos Port Hits 7,000+ China-Europe Rail Trips in 2024

Horgos Port, a major railway hub in northwest the Chinese mainland's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has processed more than 7,000 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train trips since January, marking a significant boost in global rail connectivity.

Operating along 90 routes, these trains link 46 cities and regions across 18 countries, transporting over 200 categories of cargo—from auto parts and electronics to construction materials, steel, sports goods, and daily essentials.

In May, the port introduced customs reforms that cut import clearance times from two to three days down to under 16 hours—a 70% reduction. Export processing times shrank from six hours to just one, an 80% improvement. Real-time data sharing between customs and railway authorities now enables live tracking of logistics, boosting overall clearance efficiency by more than 50%.

Situated on the China-Kazakhstan border, Horgos Port and Alashankou Port (also known as Alataw Pass) serve as the Chinese mainland’s main rail gateways to Europe and Central Asia. In 2024, the corridor moved over 220,000 TEUs of finished automobiles.

As of June, the network spans 128 Chinese cities, 229 cities in 26 European countries, and over 100 cities across 11 Asian countries—offering faster, greener, data-driven logistics solutions for young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads alike.
