Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hits 90 Million Trips

Since its opening in October 2018, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has carried over 90 million passengers, according to the bridge's border inspection station. Alongside travelers, more than 18.68 million vehicles have crossed at the Zhuhai port.

Traffic is surging: passenger numbers reached 27 million in 2024, and so far this year, the bridge has handled 21.2 million tripsโ€”a 19% increase over last year. Forecasts predict annual usage will top 30 million journeys by year-end.

Residents of the Chinese mainland are at the forefront of this boom. Since January, over 9.01 million residents have used the bridge to visit Hong Kong and Macao, sparking vibrant growth in tourism and local experiences.

Transforming travel dynamics, the bridge cuts commuting time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from roughly three hours to just 30 minutes. That speed and ease are reshaping how people plan trips for tourism, business, study, and family reunions.

Meanwhile, crossings by residents of Hong Kong and Macao have soared from 4.5 million trips in 2019 to 16.2 million in 2024, with 2025 figures already at 12.7 million. Experts predict full-year totals will top 18 million, highlighting the bridge's rising popularity.
