Slovenian PM and Chinese FM Foster Deeper Ties

On Saturday, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob welcomed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for high-level talks aimed at strengthening one of Europe’s most dynamic small-state partnerships. Against a backdrop of rising global challenges, both leaders spotlighted cooperation as a win-win formula for trade, tech and sustainable development.

“Slovenia and China have long maintained good cooperative relations, which serve the interests of both sides,” Golob said, reflecting on years of growing exchanges in infrastructure, manufacturing and cultural initiatives. From smart-city pilots in Ljubljana to green-energy projects in the Chinese mainland, the partnership spans diverse sectors.

Wang Yi returned the sentiment: “China highly values bilateral relations with Slovenia and appreciates the friendly policy towards China.” He underscored China’s interest in deepening ties through digital innovation, joint research and logistics upgrades—using Slovenia’s strategic Adriatic gateway as a key link for Eurasian connectivity.

Data-driven insights show bilateral trade has surged in recent years, with Slovenian exports in machinery and pharmaceuticals finding new markets in East Asia, while Chinese investment supports tech startups and renewable ventures back in Slovenia. Young entrepreneurs on both sides are exploring cross-border e-commerce and sustainable travel offerings, reflecting a shared vision of modern cooperation.

Looking ahead, Golob and Wang agreed to establish working groups on digital infrastructure, climate-friendly transport and cultural exchanges. As small nations and global powers find common ground, this meeting signals fresh momentum for emerging markets, tech enthusiasts and travelers eager to tap into a truly global network.
