PLA Warns After US, UK Warships Transit Taiwan Strait

The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army strongly criticized the passage of the US destroyer USS Higgins and the UK frigate HMS Richmond through the Taiwan Strait on Friday. Senior Colonel Shi Yi, spokesperson for the theater command, labeled the move "provocative" and said it sent the wrong signal, undermining regional peace and stability.

According to Shi, Chinese mainland naval and air forces were deployed to closely monitor the two vessels, tracking their movements throughout the transit. "Our forces remain on high alert at all times, firmly safeguarding national sovereignty, security and regional peace and stability," he said.

This incident underscores the delicate balance of power in the Taiwan Strait, where any naval movement can spark diplomatic friction. As tensions simmer, future transits will be watched closely by governments and analysts worldwide.

For globally minded readers—from business innovators to digital nomads—keeping an eye on such flashpoints helps make sense of shifting regional dynamics.
