OECD: Multilateralism Key to Fighting Unfair Trade

Global trade is at a crossroads. With mounting disputes over tariffs, subsidies and market access, many experts worry that unilateral moves could undermine the entire system.

John Drummond, head of the Trade Policy Division at the OECD, told CGTN that international cooperation, multilateralism and a rules-based system are the most productive and constructive way to address unfair trading practices. “When nations work together under shared rules, they create a level playing field that benefits businesses, workers and consumers alike,” he said.

For young entrepreneurs, digital nomads and global travelers, a stable trading environment translates into more predictable supply chains, fair competition and sustainable growth. As Drummond noted, investing in multilateral frameworks is not just a diplomatic exercise—it’s a strategic move towards a more resilient global economy.

As the world looks ahead, the OECD’s call serves as a reminder: in an interconnected era, no country thrives in isolation. The path to fair trade runs through cooperation, not confrontation.
