World No. 2 Wang Chuqin of the Chinese mainland staged an impressive comeback against Denmarks veteran Jonathan Groth in the second round of the WTT Champions Macao in the Macao Special Administrative Region.
Despite dropping the opener 7011, the 25-year-old world champion found his rhythm to claim the next three games 1107, 1106 and 1102, sealing a 31 victory under the arena lights.
Up next for Wang is eighth-seeded Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei, promising a high-stakes showdown between two of the sports brightest talents in the round of 16.
In another headline-making match, Chinas Xue Fei stunned third-seeded Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan in straight games (1108, 1108, 1109) to reach the quarterfinals. Xue will face South Koreas Jang Woo-jin next.
With momentum swinging in his favor and the crowd behind him, Wang Chuqin looks poised to make a deep run—and further elevate his status on the global table tennis stage.
