Thailand’s King Endorses Anutin Charnvirakul as New Prime Minister

Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn has given the green light to Anutin Charnvirakul as the country's new prime minister, moving Thailand closer to a fresh political chapter. Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Arpath Sukhanunth announced the royal endorsement at a ceremony held at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters.

Earlier on Friday, Anutin secured majority support in a parliamentary vote, signaling broad backing for his leadership. The royal command formally seals the appointment and sets the stage for government formation.

In his first speech as prime minister, Anutin pledged that his administration would work tirelessly to help Thailand navigate its current challenges. He emphasized the importance of transparency and vowed to expedite legal proceedings when appropriate, ensuring that the justice system operates independently and in line with constitutional mechanisms.

Anutin also outlined plans to pursue constitutional reform, clearing the way for a new charter drafted through the prescribed legal process. True to his promise, he intends to dissolve parliament within four months after taking office to pave the way for these changes.

The new prime minister expressed confidence in building support across sectors, aiming to lay a solid foundation for the next government and secure long-term stability, well-being, and prosperity for the Thai people.

With royal endorsement in hand, Anutin will now assemble his cabinet and deliver a policy address to parliament—a formality required before his government officially assumes office.

Anutin Charnvirakul, 58, leads the Bhumjaithai Party and brings extensive experience from previous roles as deputy prime minister and minister of both interior and public health.
