China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has successfully replaced the first engine on the worldâs inaugural C919 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the maintenance capabilities for Chinaâs homegrown large passenger planes.
This complex engine replacement was undertaken to validate the feasibility of the C919âs engine maintenance processes, ultimately aiming to enhance aircraft safety. Over the course of nine days, CEAâs skilled maintenance engineers meticulously completed 60 routine tasks and more than 10 non-routine tasks, ensuring all test parameters remained normal.
âThis engine replacement will ensure the sustainable operation of the C919 aircraft in CEAâs fleet and enhance its performance,â said Dong Haoyang, manager of the C919 engine replacement project at China Eastern Xibei Airlines, as cited by CCTV+.
Currently, CEA operates seven C919 aircraft, servicing five major commercial routes that connect Shanghai with Beijing, Chengdu, Xiâan, and other key cities. The C919 is also in commercial operation with other major airlines, including Air China and China Southern Airlines, further solidifying its presence in the aviation market.
