China’s UN Envoy Calls for Transparency on Nord Stream Explosions

At the UN Security Council meeting convened at Russia’s request on Tuesday, Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative, urged full transparency on the Nord Stream pipeline explosions three years ago.

Despite early calls among council members to allow Sweden, Denmark and Germany time for national investigations, a definitive conclusion remains elusive. "After three years, the complete truth is still missing," Geng noted, highlighting a gap in public information beyond media speculation.

China has taken note of reports about the recent arrest of a suspect and a joint letter to the Council from Germany, Sweden and Denmark, but Geng stressed that these steps "do not suffice as a response to the doubts and concerns of the international community." He urged Germany to accelerate its judicial proceedings and publish findings via official channels.

Calling for depoliticized probes and stronger cooperation, the Chinese envoy warned against repeating such incidents and stressed that perpetrators must face legal accountability. "The international community rightfully demands a truthful answer," he added.
