In a move set to reinforce one of Asia’s key partnerships, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Park Byeong-seug, the special envoy of ROK President Lee Jae-myung, in Beijing on Tuesday. Both sides signaled a shared commitment to deepening strategic trust and reviving the momentum of China–ROK ties.
Han underlined China’s readiness to implement the consensus reached by the heads of state, expand areas of common interest, and enhance coordination in multilateral forums. In particular, he highlighted the significance of this year’s 80th anniversaries of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the World Anti-Fascist War victory, and the liberation of the Korean Peninsula—milestones that resonate across the region.
“China is ready to work with the international community, including the ROK side, to safeguard the outcomes of World War II and uphold true multilateralism,” Han said, pointing to a vision of cooperation that transcends national borders.
Park reiterated that the new ROK government respects the one-China principle and values its strategic cooperative partnership with the Chinese mainland. He expressed hope to put bilateral ties back on track, leveraging the leaders’ consensus for the benefit of people on both sides.
The Beijing meeting comes at a critical time as global challenges—from security tensions to economic headwinds—demand closer coordination among major Asian powers. With an eye on sustainable stability and shared prosperity, both delegations have set the stage for more regular high-level exchanges in the months ahead.
