In a bid to bolster energy security, the Chinese mainland this week fired up the first section of its second Sichuan-to-East natural gas pipeline. Spanning 56.15Â km, this initial leg links the Anyue Gas Field in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province, to the compressor station in Tongliang District, Chongqing Municipality.
With this launch, the national grid gains an extra 3Â billion cubic meters of annual transmission capacity. Li Wang, head of PipeChina's Chongqing branch, says the new channel integrates gas from the Gaoshiti block into the Zhongwei-Guiyang line, opening a direct path to markets in central and eastern regions.
Built in two phases, the pipeline will ultimately stretch 4,269Â km from Luxian County, Sichuan Province, to Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. When fully commissioned in 2027, it will haul 20Â billion cubic meters per year, helping meet peak demand, support a 100-billion-cubic-meter production hub in Sichuan and Chongqing, and drive cleaner energy use along its route.
- First section: 56.15Â km adds 3Â billion cubic meters/year
- Total length: 4,269Â km to Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province
- Full capacity: 20Â billion cubic meters/year by 2027
