Typhoon Kajiki Spurs Level-IV Emergency in Hainan Province

On Saturday, the Ministry of Emergency Management activated a Level-IV emergency response in Hainan Province—a four-tier system where Level I is most severe—to prepare for flooding and strong winds as Typhoon Kajiki, the 13th typhoon this year, nears.

According to meteorological authorities, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Kajiki's center was about 650 kilometers east of Sanya. Forecasts predict it will move west at up to 25 km/h, intensify significantly, and likely make landfall or pass close to the southern coast of Hainan Island by Sunday evening.

The National Meteorological Center of the Chinese mainland has issued a yellow alert—the third-highest of a four-color system (red, orange, yellow, blue)—as Hainan Island, the Xisha Islands, and the Zhongsha Islands brace for heavy to torrential rain from Saturday through Sunday.

The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has initiated emergency measures, dispatching a work team to assist local authorities with flood and typhoon relief efforts, deploying sandbags, inspecting drainage, and readying evacuation shelters.

As the storm approaches, travelers and residents should secure loose items, prepare emergency kits, and monitor updates. We will continue to track Kajiki's path and share the latest developments.
