On August 20, the Chinese Embassy in the United States transformed its halls into a vibrant gallery for Echoes of Peace, a visual arts exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Co-hosted with China Media Group (CMG), the event drew over 200 guests from U.S. business, art, media and academic circles. Ambassadors, artists and enthusiasts mingled amid displays that blended history with cutting-edge technology.
Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Xie Feng opened the ceremony, highlighting China's 14-year struggle, more than 200 major battles and 35 million casualties. He underscored the wartime friendship with the United States as a foundation for mutual respect and win-win cooperation today. 'Honoring those who fought for freedom and peace means ensuring history's tragedies never repeat,' he said.
CMG President Shen Haixiong shared a video message, urging attendees to draw strength from the past to address modern challenges. Featured works like Wings Over China: The Flying Tigers, The Secret Betrayal and The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru illustrate pivotal moments of solidarity and sacrifice—and remind us that art and technology can spark global cooperation.
Jeff Green, chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, revisited tales of Chinese villagers rescuing downed Flying Tigers pilots, a gesture that remains a powerful symbol of cross-border friendship. 'This spirit of humanity still bridges our nations,' he remarked.
American painter David Frazer, a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design, reflected on the unique bond formed by the two allies during WWII. He voiced hope that ongoing cultural exchanges will deepen mutual understanding and inspire a new wave of solidarity.
The exhibition also debuted CMG's latest documentary, Wings Over China: The Flying Tigers, complemented by a holographic showcase of key war-time scenes. Twenty artists from China and the United States contributed to the Eternal Peace, Beautiful China collection. To cap off the evening, student musicians performed Ode to Peace, I Love You, China and Auld Lang Syne, signaling the global aspirations of a generation committed to lasting friendship.
