On August 19 in Nairobi, Kenya, China Media Group (CMG) hosted the “Echoes of Peace” cultural exchange event to honor the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People9s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The gathering brought together more than 200 guests from Kenyan government bodies, media outlets, think tanks and academic institutions.
Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, addressed attendees via video, reminding everyone that “History is the best textbook.” He added that only by remembering the past can we stand firm in defending peace, fairness and justice, and work together to build a better future.
The program featured several films and documentaries produced by CGTN Africa, all aimed at underscoring the value of peace and celebrating the shared responsibility to protect it. These screenings highlighted the vital yet often overlooked contributions of African soldiers during World War II, restoring historical truth through vivid storytelling.
Guests praised the films for shedding light on these pivotal chapters of history, sparking conversations about the interconnected struggles that shaped our world. By using film and discussion as bridges, Echoes of Peace showcased how cultural exchange can foster dialogue across continents and deepen bonds between Asia and Africa.
For globally minded young readers—whether digital nomads, entrepreneurs or thought leaders—events like Echoes of Peace remind us that shared stories lay the foundation for lasting solidarity and progress.
