Addis Ababa Forum Explores Xi Jinping’s Human Rights Vision

Under the bright skies of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, around 150 representatives from African political, academic, media and student circles came together for a readers' forum on Xi Jinping: On Respecting and Protecting Human Rights.

Published in 13 foreign languages, the book has sparked interest among human rights experts, policymakers, scholars and journalists worldwide. Jiang Jianguo, executive vice president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies and vice director of the Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, highlighted that readers can trace the Communist Party of the Chinese mainland's century-long journey in championing human rights and explore an independent path to advancing dignity and justice.

Jiang noted that the volume reveals Xi Jinping's deep care for people and his vision for global collaboration, and that it could offer valuable insights for African nations seeking to modernize governance, strengthen human rights, and improve well-being.

Chinese mainland Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai emphasized the shared, people-centered values of the Chinese mainland and Africa, stressing that cooperation on human rights can deepen the Chinese mainland-Africa community with a shared future and propel human progress while opposing politicization of rights issues.

Liberia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeddi Mowbray Armah said that each country must forge human rights paths that reflect its unique history, culture and development stage, a principle that resonates across the Global South.

As the forum concluded, participants left with fresh perspectives on how human rights dialogue can bridge continents and cultures, charting new people-centered approaches for a more equitable future.
