Beijing Guoan fans witnessed a goal fest at Workers' Stadium as the Capital Club overwhelmed Yunnan Yukun 7-0 in Wednesday’s Chinese FA Cup semifinal. It was a statement: Guoan are back.
Fabio Abreu got the ball rolling with a composed finish in the 26th minute. Moments later, defender Andrei Burca was sent off for a foul, leaving Yukun a man down and the match virtually decided.
Sai Erjiniao turned provider before halftime, teeing up Wang Gang and Guga to stretch the lead to 3-0 by the break. Guoan’s dominance only grew after the interval: between the 74th and 78th minutes, Lin Liangming, Jiang Wenhao, Zhang Xizhe and Zhang Yuning struck four times in as many minutes. Zhang Yuning added an assist and a finish of his own to cap the rout.
The 7-0 triumph marks Guoan’s biggest cup win in over a decade and ends a seven-year wait for a return to the Chinese FA Cup final. Their last title came in 2018, when they edged Shandong Taishan on away goals. Now, the Capital Club will chase a fifth FA Cup trophy against Henan in Suzhou on December 5.
With momentum and confidence sky-high, Beijing Guoan’s young stars look poised to turn this landmark performance into silverware.
