China champions dialogue as only path to Ukraine peace

At a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable way out of the Ukraine crisis.

Addressing a question on U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, Mao said, "We are glad to see all efforts committed to peace."

She reiterated that China is neither the creator of the crisis nor a party to the conflict but has maintained an objective and impartial stance from day one, promoting peace talks and political settlement.

Since the outset, Beijing has:

  • Issued a position paper on a political settlement for the crisis
  • Dispatched special envoys to shuttle between capitals
  • Launched the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis to foster dialogue

"China stands ready, in line with the will of the parties concerned, to continue working with the international community to play a constructive role in advancing a political settlement of the crisis," Mao added.

As global eyes remain fixed on Kyiv and diplomatic capitals worldwide, Beijing’s call for sustained negotiation highlights the enduring role of dialogue in defusing one of today’s most challenging geopolitical flashpoints.
