In a milestone diplomatic meeting this Thursday in Anning, Yunnan Province, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Myanmar’s Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, who is in China for the 10th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of China–Myanmar diplomatic relations. He urged both sides to seize this moment to deepen a 'China–Myanmar community with a shared future,' driving progress and rejuvenation for both nations.
China has reiterated its support for Myanmar in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and backed by its citizens, while respecting the country’s sovereignty, independence and national unity. Wang Yi also called on Myanmar to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions and projects, intensify efforts against cross-border crime and maintain stability along their common border.
U Than Swe reaffirmed Myanmar’s adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China’s three global initiatives. He expressed gratitude for China’s valuable assistance in Myanmar’s economic and social development as well as post-disaster reconstruction.
