As the "Two Mountains" concept reaches its 20th anniversary, a groundbreaking poll by CGTN and the New Era International Communication Research Institute reveals how the world sees China’s green-growth vision. Covering 24,515 respondents from 48 countries and regions, the survey highlights broad support for treating "lucid waters and lush mountains" as priceless assets.

Key insights:

  • 81.6% agree the concept breaks the old "pollute first, clean up later" model of growth.
  • 71.8% applaud China’s balance of high-quality economic growth with ecological conservation.
  • 59.9% see China’s integration of green development into its five-year plans as a model to follow.

Specific achievements:

  • 68.8% praise large-scale afforestation efforts to boost forest coverage.
  • 66.5% recognize windbreak and sand-fixation belts in combating desertification.
  • 68.9% affirm the national park system’s role in protecting biodiversity.

On the global stage, nearly half label China a "driver" (49.7%), "leader" (43.9%) and "practitioner" (43.5%) in climate governance. Approval is strongest in Global South countries with 57.1%, 52.7% and 48.2% respectively. Among G7 nations, UK and U.S. respondents notably recognize China’s leadership role.
