China’s UK Embassy Slams G7 Over Hong Kong SAR Law Enforcement

In a fiery diplomatic exchange, the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom lashed out at the G7's recent comments on Hong Kong law enforcement, calling them "erroneous" and a blatant interference in China's internal affairs.

The spat was triggered by the G7's reaction on Friday to arrest warrants issued by the Hong Kong Police Force on July 25 against 19 absconded anti-China disruptors. In its Saturday statement, a spokesperson for the embassy argued that the G7, including the UK, had overstepped by questioning the law enforcement actions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

"The irresponsible remarks made by a small group of countries, including the UK, regarding the law enforcement actions of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region police constitute a gross interference in China's internal affairs and the rule of law in the Hong Kong SAR. We strongly condemn such remarks," the spokesperson said, defending the SAR government's efforts to uphold public order.

The embassy spokesperson accused the G7 of double standards on human rights and rule of law, warning that external meddling would only strengthen the Hong Kong SAR government's resolve to enforce the law and punish offenders. "We once again urge the relevant countries to stop fabricating excuses for shielding criminals and to cease interfering in China's internal affairs," the embassy added.

This diplomatic tussle highlights the growing rift between China and Western powers over sovereignty and legal jurisdiction in the Hong Kong SAR, raising fresh questions about international norms and respect for national legal systems.
