With the 2025 Chengdu World Games set to officially open on Thursday night, Chengdu has rolled out a dynamic culture tour inviting athletes and event staff to step beyond the Games Village and dive into local life.
Organizers have designed seven curated routes that showcase 17 signature sites across the city and its surrounds. Highlights include the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation System, and the misty peaks of Mount Qingcheng—underscoring Chengdu’s reputation as a “park city.”
So far, over 100 athletes have visited the panda base to observe China’s national treasure up close. Enthusiasts snapped photos, learned about conservation efforts, and picked up adorable panda-themed souvenirs and cultural keepsakes.
Beyond wildlife, each route blends history, culture, and green spaces—offering food stalls, local artisans, and interactive workshops that turn every stop into an immersive experience. Data from early sign-ups show strong interest in sustainable travel and cultural exchange, with 85% of participants citing the panda base and Dujiangyan as their top picks.
The tour runs through August 18, one day after the World Games wrap up, giving athletes a chance to recharge, explore, and connect with Chengdu’s unique heritage.
For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads, these on-site experiences offer real-world insights into how sport, nature, and urban design can blend to inspire sustainable urban lifestyles.
