After the heartache of an 8-7 penalty shootout loss to Henan in the CFA Cup quarterfinals, Shanghai Shenhua found sweet revenge just four days later. Hosts Shenhua edged Henan 3-2 at Shanghai Stadium, reinforcing their position at the summit of the Chinese Super League.
The match sprung to life in the 17th minute when Jiang Shenglong headed home the opener. Despite a strong save from Henan keeper Wang Guoming in the 36th minute, Shenhua maintained the upper hand, only to be pegged back by Bruno Nazario’s stoppage-time penalty.
But Shenhua struck again almost immediately. A misplayed clearance from Iago Maidana fell to Joao Teixeira, who slotted home to restore the lead. Midway through the second half, Luis Asue’s low finish made it 3-1. Henan’s Frank Acheampong pulled one back in the 76th minute, but Shenhua held firm to seal the victory.
The win extends Shenhua’s lead over city rivals Shanghai Port to six points. Elsewhere on Sunday, Qingdao Hainiu beat Tianjin Jinmen Tiger 2-0, Dalian Yingbo won 2-0 at Changchun Yatai, Zhejiang edged Wuhan Three Towns 3-2, and Shandong Taishan cruised past Meizhou Hakka 3-0.
