At the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) unveiled ScienceOne—an AI powerhouse designed to turbocharge scientific discovery. By mastering complex data types like waveforms, spectra and fields, ScienceOne bridges gaps in fragmented research ecosystems, delivering a one-stop AI foundation for innovation.

Traditional AI approaches often stitch together general-purpose models and isolated domain tools, leading to siloed data systems, limited reasoning capabilities and closed-loop research. ScienceOne resets the bar. Built by twelve leading CAS institutes—including the Institute of Automation, the Computer Network Information Center and the Institute of High Energy Physics—the model fuses literature extraction, knowledge reasoning and tool orchestration into a unified platform.

Powered by the Chinese mainland’s open-source AI foundations and deep scientific customization, ScienceOne integrates proprietary models for common data types and domain tools like AlphaFold and MatterGen. The result? A system that grips the core principles of mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth science and biology, demonstrating state-of-the-art performance across these fields.

One standout feature: an intelligent agent that tackles literature reviews in record time. With access to 170 million scientific papers and real-time open-source info, tasks that once took 3–5 days now wrap up in just 20 minutes. A second agent autonomously plans experiments by orchestrating over 300 scientific tools, automatically mapping research problems to the best computational pipelines.

Case in point: on the X-Cell platform, ScienceOne identifies biological targets; at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, it accelerates particle simulations; in chemistry labs, it boosts molecular prediction accuracy; around the globe, it synchronizes telescope networks; and it’s even reshaping high-speed rail design.
