On Friday, Hong Kong’s National Security Department unveiled a court-approved wanted list for 19 individuals suspected of violating the National Security Law for the HKSAR.
Authorities accuse the group, which called itself the “Hong Kong Parliament,” of promoting self-determination, drafting a so-called “Hong Kong Constitution” and plotting to undermine the basic system of the PRC or central power of the HKSAR through unlawful means under the banner of “One Country, Two Systems.”
The Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong threw its full support behind the police action, calling it a legitimate and necessary step to safeguard the rule of law, protect national sovereignty and uphold long-term stability in the city.
In a strong statement, the office condemned certain politicians and institutions in the US, the UK, Australia and other countries for smearing the National Security Law for the HKSAR and openly interfering in China’s internal affairs. It accused them of “hypocritical double standards” and warned that no foreign smear campaign can shake Hong Kong’s prosperity or the foundations of “One Country, Two Systems.”
The office emphasized that the National Security Law for the HKSAR provides a solid guarantee for Hong Kong’s long-term stability and the successful implementation of “One Country, Two Systems,” urging foreign actors to adopt an objective and fair stance, respect Hong Kong’s rule of law and immediately cease interference.
