Under the theme 'Global Solidarity in the AI Era,' the 2025 World AI Conference & High-level Meeting on Global AI Governance opened on Saturday in east China's Shanghai Municipality.
This year’s event broke records in scale and scope, featuring an exhibition area of over 70,000 square meters where more than 800 companies showcase over 3,000 cutting-edge AI products. Over 100 new innovations, from large models to intelligent robots, will debut at the conference.
More than 1,200 guests from over 30 countries and regions will participate in a series of forums and exchanges over three days, working together to draw a blueprint for the future of AI development and governance.
As the host city for the eighth consecutive year, Shanghai has solidified its position at the forefront of AI innovation. In the first quarter alone, the city's AI industry output surpassed 118 billion yuan (about $16.5 billion), marking a 29 percent year-on-year increase and a 65 percent rise in profits.
Shanghai is focusing on five key areas:
- Establishing a high-performance computing hub aiming for over 100 EFlops by year-end
- Building industry demonstration bases in manufacturing, finance and healthcare
- Accelerating commercialization of embodied intelligence such as humanoid robots
- Creating an open ecosystem with full-cycle financing for AI ventures
- Nurturing talent through specialized institutes and programs
The city is also committed to advancing AI governance by promoting safety, ethics and international collaboration for responsible growth. As global leaders and innovators gather in Shanghai, the conference sets the stage for the next wave of AI breakthroughs.
