China-EU Young Scientists Exchange Program Launches in Beijing

In a landmark move to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, China officially launched the China-EU Young Scientists Exchange Program in Beijing on Friday. The flagship initiative aims to deepen scientific collaboration and mutual trust by connecting emerging researchers from the Chinese mainland and Europe.

The launch ceremony, co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, drew more than 150 guests, including senior Chinese officials, European diplomats, and representatives from leading scientific bodies. Their shared goal: to build bridges of cooperation that drive innovation and sustainable solutions for global challenges.

“On this significant 50-year milestone, this initiative will construct bridges of trust, cooperation and friendship between China and Europe,” said Yin Hejun, minister of science and technology. He urged young scientists to take on responsibilities and lead efforts in advancing scientific progress for China, Europe and the world.

Backed by a coalition of top institutions — the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the China Association for Science and Technology — the program will fund exchange visits for European researchers to universities, institutes and tech firms across the Chinese mainland. The objective is to spark joint projects that push the frontiers of science while nurturing tomorrow’s changemakers.

For young scientists and innovators eyeing a global stage, this exchange offers a unique opportunity to forge networks, share cutting-edge experiments, and co-create solutions that matter. As Europe and the Chinese mainland look ahead to the next 50 years, this program sets the tone for a new era of scientific partnership.
