German Chamber in North China Warns: Higher Tariffs a No-Win

At the China International Supply Chain Expo 2025 in Beijing, Oliver Oehms, executive director and board member of the German Chamber of Commerce in North China, delivered a stark warning: "Higher tariffs or trade barriers create a no-win situation for everyone."

Speaking to CGTN during the expo, Oehms emphasized that rising costs and uncertainties ripple through every link in the supply chain—from manufacturers and exporters to logistics providers and end consumers.

For young entrepreneurs and tech startups navigating cross-border shipping, even small tariff hikes can erode profit margins and stall growth. Business leaders at the expo highlighted the need for open dialogue between policymakers and industry stakeholders to keep global trade flowing.

As the expo runs from Wednesday to Sunday, participants will explore digital innovations, sustainability strategies and collaborative models aimed at strengthening supply chains in an uncertain trade climate. The key takeaway? Cooperation, not isolation, will help businesses adapt to shifting policies and thrive in a connected world.
